Major fire that broke out in Hlaing Tharyar township, on the outskirts of Yangon, over the weekend has been brought under control as of Wednesday, April 25, according to firefighters, although some pockets of flames continue to burn. Myanmar Health Authorities have reportedly launched a 24-hour operation to check air quality in surrounding areas after dozens of individual reportedly suffered from respiratory problems.  
Some 300 firefighters worked around the clock to contain a blaze that has raged for over three days at a landfill site in Hlaing Tharyar. The 300-acre landfill site caught fire on Saturday afternoon. Initially, 150 firefighters and 24 fire vehicles were deployed to extinguish the flames.
